Llyn Elsi Run, Betws-y-Coed (6 km)

Betws-y-Coed is better known as a hiking base, but this 6 km loop up to Llyn Elsi works well as a shorter run. You climb through woodland, lap the reservoir, and drop back into the village — no full mountain day required.

The route

• Start: Betws-y-Coed village centre
• End: Betws-y-Coed (circular)
• Distance: About 6 km (3.8 miles)
• Terrain: Forest tracks and stony paths; steady climb to the reservoir then a faster descent back to the village

The climb to Llyn Elsi is the main effort — roughly 220 m of ascent — and the path can be rocky and muddy after rain. Trail shoes with decent grip are enough.
