Keswick and Catbells Hike (19 km)

This 19 km loop from Keswick heads south along Derwentwater, climbs over Catbells, and returns through the valleys behind town. Keswick is easy to reach without a car, so you can start a proper hill walk from the high street. I did it on a grey, misty day.

- Start: Keswick town centre, near Derwentwater
- End: Keswick (circular)
- Distance: About 19 km (12 miles)
- Terrain: Lakeshore paths and well-trodden hill tracks; steady climbing on Catbells with some rocky sections near the summit
Signs are generally good, but the descent paths branch in a few places — keep an eye on the map if the cloud comes down. Waterproofs are non-negotiable here; the Lakes will find a way to rain on you even when the forecast looks fine.
