Pontcysyllte Aqueduct Walk, Llangollen (14 km)

The Pontcysyllte Aqueduct carries the Llangollen Canal high above the River Dee — an old bridge of stone pillars and iron arches, and one of the most famous spots in the area. This 14 km circular walk follows the canal from Llangollen to the aqueduct and back, almost entirely on flat towpath. It is a long walk rather than a hill day; the scenery does the work.

- Start: Llangollen, near the town centre
- End: Llangollen (circular)
- Distance: About 14 km (8.7 miles)
- Terrain: Canal towpath and valley paths — flat and well-surfaced for most of the way; the aqueduct walkway is narrow with a railing on one side and open water on the other
Keep the water on one side and follow the main track — the towpath is easy to follow throughout. The aqueduct is the only section that demands attention: the path across is narrow, and the drop to the valley floor is a long way down if you are not comfortable with heights.
